To apply online for a BE, Bus or Truck learner permit when you hold an EU/EEA driving licence in another category
You can now quickly and easily apply online for a BE, Bus or Truck learner permit when you hold an EU/EEA driving licence in another category. No need to complete paper forms, make appointments or visit an NDLS centre in person.
All you need is the following:
- your current EU/EEA driving licence (postal address provided online to submit your driving licence). Failure to submit your foreign driving licence will result in your application for exchange being rejected. When your licence has been reviewed by NDLS it will be returned to you by post.
- A Public Services Card and verified MyGovID.
- To have successfully passed the driver theory test in the category you are applying for in the previous 2 years
- Proof of your address dated within the last six months if your current address differs from the one you provided when you applied for your PSC.
- Proof that you are normally resident in Ireland if your place of birth and nationality are outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland/UK/Northern Ireland.
- Fully completed medical report form dated within one month, if required in your case.
- Completed relevant driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC), if required
- Your application fee of €45.00. You can pay by credit or debit card. If you are 70 years and over you are exempt from paying the fee.
You must book an appointment to attend an NDLS centre. You will need to bring the required supporting documents, ID and fee. An application form is no longer required. Your photograph and signature will be captured electronically at the NDLS centre.
To apply in person at an NDLS centre you will need the following:
- Your current EU/EEA driving licence which will be handed back to you during your appointment at the NDLS centre.
- Photographic I.D.
- To have successfully passed the driver theory test in the category you are applying for in the previous 2 years
- Proof of your personal public services number (PPSN).
- Fully completed medical report form dated within one month, if required in your case.
- Proof of your address dated within the last six months is required if your current address is not recorded on your licence and it differs from that provided to the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection (DEASP) if and when you applied for a PSC.
- Proof that you are normally resident in Ireland if your place of birth and nationality are outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland/UK/Northern Ireland.
- Completed relevant driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC), if required
- Your application fee of €45.00. You can only pay by credit or debit card, Google Pay or Apple Pay or Payzone voucher. If you are aged 70 years or over you are exempt from paying the fee.
You can apply in person at any of the 34 National Driver Licence Service (NDLS) centres nationwide.
