At times our NDLS Centres experience very high demand. While we will endevour to process everybody who attends an NDLS Centre, unfortunately we cannot guarantee everyone will be seen on the day they present with their application.
The NDLS recommends that you make an online booking in advance of presenting at a centre to ensure that your application is processed.
If you do not make an online appointment you can still walk in to a centre. However the NDLS advises you should arrive as early as possible on the day as in many centres online bookings are facilitated in the afternoons.
The online appointment booking system in place for all NDLS Centres is available here.
National Driver Licence Service or NDLS, is the name given to the new, dedicated service which will receive applications for learner permits and driver licences
Since January 2013 The Road Safety Authority has been tasked with delivering the driving licence and learner permit service. Security and safety are at the heart of the new service which will be delivered consistently throughout the country. Since the move from paper to plastic card, learner permits and licences are more secure, long-lasting and convenient. Now we’re adding another layer of security to make sure that the only person who uses your licence is you. This will help to keep unlicenced, illegal drivers off our roads.
To apply for either a new or replacement learner permit or driver licence, you will need to visit one of the new National Driver Licence Service (NDLS) centres nationwide.

The National Driver Licence Service has:
- At least one centre in every county in Ireland – and you can apply for your licence in any one of the centres nationwide.
- More flexible and convenient opening times, including lunchtime opening and weekend opening hours to facilitate customers who may not be able to apply for their licence during normal working hours.
- A security validation process for new customers which in most cases you will only need to do once, to make your learner permit or driving licence more secure and less susceptible to fraud.
